Robert Hall - Managing Director
Robert is the Managing Director of Sunrise Consultants Ltd, which he founded in 2002. He previously worked for Ovum Ltd, the telecommunications and IT analyst and consulting company based in London.
Consultancy Experience
He spent eight years with Ovum, mainly working as a regulatory and strategy consultant. This involved working with operators and regulators in Europe, the Middle East, North America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He was Ovum's Director of Telecommunications Consulting and a member of the Board for two of these years. He was responsible for opening Ovum's office in Buenos Aires in 2000. While at Ovum he made presentations at many conferences around the world.
From waterways to networks!
Before joining Ovum he worked for British Waterways - "a very unusual job" - working to promote the restoration and greater public use of the historic British canal system. In the early 1990s, when the United Kingdom was liberalising its telecommunications market, he became involved in exploring how the canal rights of way could be used for telecommunications. He saw the opportunity to develop a dark fibre network along the canal system, and carried out the initial market testing, business planning, and joint venture agreements. Fibreway, which installed the first commercial dark fibre network in the United Kingdom, resulted from his - and many others' - efforts.
Education
Robert attended the London School of Economics, from which he obtained a first degree in Geography, and a second degree in Planning, and the London Business School, where he gained a MBA, doing it part-time.
